What to Expect on the Day

Once your appointment is confirmed, you will receive a secure, encrypted video link sent to both your email and mobile phone via SMS. This link is unique to your session and ensures your consultation is private and safe.

Before Your Appointment

AuSpecialist telehealth sessions work on most modern devices with a camera, microphone, and speakers.
You can use:

  • Laptops
  • Desktop computers
  • Tablets
  • Smartphones

If you’re unsure whether your device meets minimum requirements, our team can guide you.

We recommend joining your session 10–15 minutes before the appointment time.
This allows you to:

  • Test your audio and camera
  • Confirm your internet connection
  • Resolve any last-minute technical issues

This ensures your session starts on time and runs smoothly.

To improve call stability:

  • Close streaming services (Netflix, YouTube, gaming apps)
  • Avoid downloading large files during your appointment
  • Move closer to your Wi-Fi router if needed

A stable connection helps your psychiatrist see and hear you clearly.

Setting Up Your Space

To protect your privacy and help you feel comfortable, choose a space where you won’t be interrupted.
This also allows your clinician to hear you clearly.

For video consultations, make sure your room is well-lit, ideally with:

  • Natural light behind your device (not behind you)
  • Soft lighting that clearly shows your face

Clear visibility helps your psychiatrist read facial expressions and body cues.

Position your camera so that:

  • You are centred in the frame
  • The camera is at eye level
  • Your device is about an arm’s length away

If you’re using a laptop, you may need to place it on a book or stand for better height.
