What to Expect on the Day
Before Your Appointment
AuSpecialist telehealth sessions work on most modern devices with a camera, microphone, and speakers.
You can use:
- Laptops
- Desktop computers
- Tablets
- Smartphones
If you’re unsure whether your device meets minimum requirements, our team can guide you.
We recommend joining your session 10–15 minutes before the appointment time.
This allows you to:
- Test your audio and camera
- Confirm your internet connection
- Resolve any last-minute technical issues
This ensures your session starts on time and runs smoothly.
To improve call stability:
- Close streaming services (Netflix, YouTube, gaming apps)
- Avoid downloading large files during your appointment
- Move closer to your Wi-Fi router if needed
A stable connection helps your psychiatrist see and hear you clearly.
Setting Up Your Space
To protect your privacy and help you feel comfortable, choose a space where you won’t be interrupted.
This also allows your clinician to hear you clearly.
For video consultations, make sure your room is well-lit, ideally with:
- Natural light behind your device (not behind you)
- Soft lighting that clearly shows your face
Clear visibility helps your psychiatrist read facial expressions and body cues.
Position your camera so that:
- You are centred in the frame
- The camera is at eye level
- Your device is about an arm’s length away
If you’re using a laptop, you may need to place it on a book or stand for better height.
